The article offers a look at the business environment in the Philippines. The Philippines has a cheap English-speaking workforce and is eager to win greater foreign investment. Although the constitution bars foreigners from owning land, foreign businesses can own 100% equity in most economic sectors and are granted tax privileges in around 50 Special Economic Zones. The two most important are the converted U.S. Air Force and naval bases at the Clark Bay and the Subic Bay. Common business complaints include political turmoil, widespread corruption, ageing infrastructure and a slow-moving legal system. |
